Science and comedy podcasts

What podcasts are you listening to?

A few days ago, I suggested listening to podcasts as a strategy to limit our screen time. There are other benefits as well. You can get effortlessly updated on any topic that you like. You can also join a community of listeners with similar interests. History of Philosophy without any Gaps with Peter Adamson was the one I mentioned then. As we all know, just one isn’t enough. I am more than happy to expand on our list with some science and comedy podcasts. I will comment on shows produced both in English and Brazilian Portuguese.

Science and comedy podcasts

I love when we have a mix of science, comedy and pop culture. That’s exactly what we have in StarTalk with Neil deGrasse Tyson. As with most of the recent productions, the show is hosted on multiple platforms, like podcast aggregators, Spotify and YouTube. In the case of this one, I love watching the videos. Besides putting faces to the voices, there are visual aids like pictures of the celestial bodies. At several key moments, you can also see graphics explaining the scientific concepts behind what they are talking about. There are multiple spin-offs for the show. Believe it or not, some of them are hilarious, thanks to Chuck Nice, one of the co-hosts. Who said that science podcasts couldn’t be fun? My first contact with Neil was in the new version of the TV show Cosmos: a Spacetime Odyssey. Although it is not a podcast, I also recommend it.

Now, I wanted to propose, for those who speak Portuguese, the hilarious podcast Caso Bizarro with Mabê Bonafé. She has several guests to the show, including some that are fixed. In each episode they read together real life stories sent by the listeners. You will not believe the things that happen to the subscribers. Many of the tales deal with supernatural events and apparitions. They involve extraterrestrial beings and UFOs. Some stories recount dates that went wrong or are simply funny and bizarre situations. I think I have never laughed so hard listening to a podcast like I did with this one.

From my side, I’d like also to know, what are some of the podcasts that you are listening to? Please post in the comments!
