What is good about having a pet?
Our pets are considered part of our family now. They live in our home, share the space with us. When you spend the time to know them, you start to realize that each of them have a different personality. Before you notice it, they have captivated your heart. And you get deeply attached to them. The good thing about having a pet as family is that you have companionship. You are not alone.
Catarina
This is Catarina, Cati for friends. She captivated me from the moment I laid eyes on her. She was in a little cage in our local pet shop up for adoption. While I was waiting for my dog’s grooming to be finished, she called my attention. She started to play with me. Up to this day I am not sure whether I chose her or she chose me. She was so energetic and charismatic, I couldn’t resist. I asked the pet shop people what I needed to do to adopt her. I brought her home that same day. That was more than seventeen years ago. I never regretted that decision, not for a day.
Cati is an old lady now, and has passed through so many adventures. She moved countries for one thing, from a temperate climate that she loved to below freezing temperatures. Now at least she enjoys the summer or sunbathing in the windowsill during winter. She had three brothers, two dogs and another cat, Thomas. Long story short, she got lost for almost a whole day, but she was found again. I never thought I could be so worried in my entire existence. She has lived a full and happy life. Whatever happens from now on, I am grateful for the privilege of taking care of her.

Thomas
And this is Thomas. He’s the sweetest boy I have ever seen. When he was about six months old he was rescued from the streets and neutered. The rescuers were expected to return him to his colony, but noticed that he wasn’t like the other feral cats. They decided to put him up for adoption. At the same time we were looking for a brother for Catarina. One thing led to another, and we ended up adopting him also.
Thomas also moved countries. He is so afraid of people but he put on a brave face and came without complaint in a flight of 10 hours full of strangers. That cat loves to play with his laser tag. He dreams about chasing the birds or squirrels he sees from the window. Sometimes, he even spots them on the TV screen in a random movie. When he is outside, he has a real chance of catching them right in front of him. But he is harmless, he just keeps looking at them and simply doesn’t know how to do it. That’s him, he is funny and sweet that way.

I am so happy for having them both in our lives. I am sure they know it, maybe they are pets, but they are part of our family.
