Where can you reduce clutter in your life?
My e-mail inbox was a mess, I can’t deny it. I was drowning in e-mails. But I have taken steps to solve that problem, and can enjoy a tidy inbox once more.
Dealing with unsolicited e-mails
I used to get so many unsolicited e-mails. Every new app I use, every new site I subscribe to, they feel in the right of sending me e-mails. Sometimes, when I hit the unsubscribe button, they still feel in the right of continuing sending them. And we know that some companies sell our data. When that happens, I simply cancel my subscription and include them in the spam list or junk box. No guilty feelings about it.
Organizing the important ones
For the legitimate e-mails that I want to continue receiving, I have adopted some strategies. I have created labels and rules to categorize them. There is a category for each sender. This way, the messages I get are already in the right place. I can just read them quickly and hit the archive button. Problem solved.
Separating a day for cleaning
Even with the steps above, from time to time unread e-mails can accumulate. Then I take a day to do a thorough cleaning. I create new rules and labels for the senders that still don’t have them. I go through the automatic labels like promotions, social or updates. And I remove everything that needs deleting. I go also through the junk box and make sure everything there is unsolicited e-mail.
