Learn French

Something on your “to-do list” that never gets done.

My to-do list is enormous, I know! I have come to terms with myself that I won’t be completing it in my lifetime. This reminds me that I need to put priorities. Among the many things I’d like to do, I love to learn languages. If I could I would like to learn ancient Greek, Latin, Hebrew, as well brush up my German. Each one of them for different reasons. But I live now in a country that is bilingual. So, the one I need to learn first is French.

Mauril is an app that I want to try. I have checked it quickly, and it looks really fun. This aligns with my resolutions for the New Year. It was created by CBC/Radio-Canada (Canadian Broadcast Corporation), with funding by the Canadian government. And what’s best: it’s free. It has several levels and different activities tailored for each.

I’m really proud of what Canada does to support their citizens. Canadians are really inclusive and one of the nicest people in the world. As a nation, there’s a feeling that we are here for each other, and that’s super important. They encourage you to learn both languages when coming to the country, because that is part of Canada’s cultural heritage. I have always been well received when visiting Quebec speaking only English. It will be nice when I can do that speaking also French.

With each post I remember things I want to do. Learn French is just another of them. I will start small and do a little everyday. Let’s cross one more item from my to-do list!
