Describe the most ambitious DIY project you’ve ever taken on.
I have done a fair share of DIY projects during my lifetime. For example, I have painted my house. I have done my own moving and worked in the garden. I have fixed so many things in the house. This not counting the innumerable IKEA furniture I have assembled. Probably, the most ambitious was when I did the backsplash tiles of my own kitchen.
There’s lots of things that needs to be considered for a project like this. What I enjoyed the most was going to the hardware store. I liked choosing the tiles I thought would go better with the cabinets. I got the right footage for covering the wall, also mortar, and grout. All of this was new to me, I never had done anything like it before. To be honest, I didn’t have the necessary skills at the time, but I decided to learn as I went. It was exciting doing some manual work for a change.
I really liked the results. Of course, it wasn’t perfect. This experience of doing the kitchen backsplash tiles taught me something important. I learned to recognize the value of construction workers. The work I did then was actually relatively small, and it was already challenging. I can only imagine what it takes for building a house from the foundation to the top. We would thrive more as a society if we, as individuals, engaged in hard work occasionally. DIY projects are a great way for us to develop empathy.
