The unnamed teacher

Who was your most influential teacher? Why?

I had many excellent teachers in the course of my life, I wouldn’t be here without them. Truly, they are too many to mention. Also, it would be unfair to the others if I just mention one or two. I will share some characteristics that I found in the most influential ones. This is really a mixture of several of them. Let’s call them the unnamed teacher.

Knowledgeable

First, I love to learn. So, the classes that captivate me the most are the ones where the teacher really knows the subject he’s teaching. I remember having phases in my life. At different times I used to like one topic more than the others. That was really due to the teacher I had. In the end, that was all for the best. It gave me some balance and I ended up having several interests in life.

Patient

It was not always that I grasped a concept at the first try. Or the second, or the third. I appreciate the teachers that understood that and didn’t give up explaining the same thing again and again. A big shout out to those who knew that humans need practice. They solved exercises during the classes. They helped me with the lists and my own attempts to solve them.

Funny

Last, I had my share of funny and jolly teachers. I remember once a teacher ran around the corridors. It seemed to be for no reason. This happened while the students were concentrated solving some questions in class. Or during computer lab, the teacher shut the ears with their hands. They did this, not the eyes, while the students typed their passwords to avoid capturing them. Specially during language classes, some invented games, said jokes, and taught sayings. They made the classes go faster and me learn better.

Did you have one or several influential teachers? Anything that comes to mind? How was your unnamed teacher?
