Which aspects do you think makes a person unique?
Uniqueness is such a beautiful characteristic that we humans have. That’s is the root of all of our diversity. And diversity is our strength. Yes, we are strong when we can embrace our differences, tolerate other beliefs, respect all cultures. When we have no fear to live with people who have other ideas than our own.
Be yourself
Do you know what makes us unique? Everything, every tiny detail, starting with our DNA. Then passing through the environment we grow in, the way we are raised. Finally ending in the scars and traumas that we inevitably experience in our life. There is no way that two persons in the world are exactly alike. Everyone has some thing or other that will distinct them from other people, and this is superb.
Dissent
These differences go beyond the appearances. They reach the realm of ideas, and touch on things like religion, politics, artistic movements. We shouldn’t be afraid to have views that are contrary to others’ views. In a free society thoughts exist to be debated, to be challenged. As I mentioned the other day, we don’t need more bans. We need people thinking for themselves and building their own personality, in an environment where all can thrive.
Cherish your heritage
We all come from some place, we have a history, a culture, a language. Be curious about your heritage. What are the stories that your ancestors taught? Are they being suppressed? Have you thought why? Be that voice that perpetuates your traditions.
Travel the world
Sometimes we are too much in our own bubble, that we forget there is an immense world out there. If you can’t physically go out in a travel, at least get in contact with other customs around you. You can visit a museum, go to a regional festivity, attend to a parade. When we get in touch with other cultures, we learn a lot about empathy, humanity and tolerance.
We don’t need to try being the same as other people. In the end, we are all different. Let’s just accept that and be ourselves. Above all, diversity is our strength.
