How do you unwind after a demanding day?
It’s a tradition in our home: after our normally stressful days we unwind watching TV series, specially sitcoms. We watch both old and new ones. Just now we watched Mid-Century Modern which premiered recently on Hulu. After finishing Mid-Century Modern, we started Will & Grace right after because they remind each other so much. No surprise here, since the creators of both shows are the same. It’s such a blessing having shows which are both gay and witty after a long day.
Mid-Century Modern
The sitcom’s premise involves three men of a certain age living together in Palm Springs. They come together after one of their best friends has died. The mom of one of them joins the group making them four: three gay men and an old woman. Friends by chance, family by choice. The actress who interpreted the mother unfortunately died before the recording of all episodes were completed. They made a special episode where her character also dies and the three friends pay their respects to her. It was charged with emotional weight and tenderness. One of my favorite shows in a long time.
Will & Grace
I watched Will & Grace here and there when the show was still running. This means the episodes were out of order. I surely didn’t watch all of them. Now, I’m watching everything in order again. But I loved the dynamic between the four friends. Will is a gay lawyer who lives with Grace, a straight interior designer. Jack and Karen are the hilarious duo who completes the group. By the way, Cher special participation is iconic, watch it below!
Both sitcoms are not only gay and witty, of course. They helped in bringing visibility to the LGBT community. They showed that gay people are kind, funny, and loving. Gay people are everywhere. If you haven’t already watched any of these shows, you should try. Even if you have, it will help you unwind after a demanding day.
