Emojis are a relatively recent way of expressing emotions in our written communication. We can use them to convey the intonation of what we are intending to say. It’s easy to see that we can make it softer ☺️ or harsher 🤬. At other times you just want to show you are being playful, silly or sarcastic. 🙃

I use emojis a lot, and, I believe, in creative ways. 👨🏻‍🎨 I participate in a chat group where we share our results for Wordle between friends. We give a hint using one or more emojis. It depends on whether we need to tell a story or just one emoji is enough to describe the word. For example, these are my hints for the last couple of days’ puzzles, can you guess what the words are?

I always thought that the “folded hands” emoji 🙏 was in fact a high five. Obviously, each hand from a different person, right?! I sent it over to a friend. I was kind of agreeing with her on something. She asked me, “why are you saying thanks?!” 😂

Of course, I was caught by surprise. 😲 It looks like I’m not alone in this. I did a little research, and there’s not in fact an official “high five” emoji. The next best thing is the “raising hands” emoji. 🙌 It is often used to express celebration, joy, or a sense of excitement or victory. So, to avoid confusion (or to add to the confusion) 😵‍💫, I have been using it ever since.

I simply love a good flan! 😋 I have even declared November 3rd as the World Flan Day. Every time I need to suggest some yummy dessert, I use it. Now, I need to do it at home to satisfy my craving! 👨🏻‍🍳
