What do you do to be involved in the community?
For many reasons, my community is as much digital as it is physical. I’ve been away from dear friends for years now. Occasionally, I get to reunite with each group of them. We meet to rekindle the flame of our friendship. On these opportunities, we sit to reminisce about remarkable moments from our past. We share what’s happening in our lives now. We also produce new material, creating new memories to carry us until we meet again. But meeting in person isn’t always possible. That’s one of the reasons why I have started this blog. I’m simply showing up with words, reaching out every day to the friends I hold close.
Writing as a contribution
It gives me great pleasure to offer my time, ideas and perspective for others to engage with. It’s pretty much like a speaker at a local event or a contributor to a community board. As can be seen, I try to vary the topics to make things more interesting, even for myself. In the last week, for example, I had a thought. It was about how cool it would be to be an astrophysicist for a day. I have shared my opinion about a few books that I have read, including On Liberty and The Demon-Haunted World. This lot includes a reflection about the pagan origins of Christmas. It also features a touching campaign where a proud parent shows acceptance of his gay daughter. Let’s not forget about a cool trip that I made to Ottawa. I visited the Parliament Hill and I learned about Canada’s form of government.
Digital dialogue
But of course, I don’t want just to be saying things without receiving any feedback. I always invite a conversation. It’s a way of reaching out to others. It gives them the opportunity to feel seen, inspired, or simply not alone. I truly value any interaction from my friends. Whether it’s a like on my social media or a comment in my blog posts, I appreciate it. I hope that my consistency and constancy in writing can build trust and familiarity. Showing up with words regularly online is like showing up in a physical community.
But hey, you came up to this point. You are one of the people that are part of my community! Why don’t you say hi, or send an emoji in the comments below? You also can be showing up with words. Be assured that you are the reason I keep writing these posts, and I’d love to get more in contact!
