Beach or mountains, that is the question

Beach or mountains? Which do you prefer? Why?

The world is full of dichotomies. And when it comes to vacationing, this is the most pleasurable one. You need to choose between two options, beach or mountains. On one side, you can go down to sea level to the warm beach. Alternatively, you can rise up to the clouds to the cold mountains. Of course I have a preference, but let’s first analyze what each choice has to offer.

Sunny and sandy beach

When you think of the beach, you automatically envision a tropical climate. You also imagine exotic fruits, refreshing drinks, and the freshest possible seafood. You can soak up the sun, while lazily you read a book. That is a relaxed environment, time is not of the essence. You wake up when you feel like it. Take a nap during the day if you need to. Rest under the shadow of a coconut tree. Be ready for the warm night. You can dance under the moon light listening to local music and rhythms. Everything is possible. You can find love for life, reignite a long time passion or just live a summer dream.

Cold and snowy mountains

But then you face the opposite choice. If you go to the mountains, you imagine warm rooms covered with wood paneled walls. You picture a cozy chair at the foot of the fireplace. Food is luscious, rich, abundant. You are in mood for red wine, cheese and nuts. Before bed you can take a hot chocolate. It is always a good idea to read a book too. You can have a great time outdoors hiking or skiing, spend all the energy that you have in store. When you go outside you expand your lungs and inhale all that fresh air. That makes you feel alive and happy. It is a wonderful time to spend in family, to reconnect. It is even better to live a breathtaking romance.

And the winner is…

Now, this is the thing with me. I always preferred to go to the mountains. It’s more introspective. I feel I can have more time for myself away from all partying, the noise and madness from the beach. That was when I lived in a tropical country and the beach was only one hour drive away. You know what they say. Too much of a good thing is a bad thing.

Now that I am living in the cold North, I crave some time under the sun. Winters unofficially last six months here. I love when I have the opportunity to drink coconut water straight from the cold fruit. It’s so good when you get to feel a cool breeze on your face because the day is so hot. And even all the craziness of people having a good time there doesn’t bother me anymore. In fact, when I have a chance, now I am also one of those people. I have joined the party!

And what is your choice? Beach or mountains? Let me know in the comments!

The mountains leave me in a sense of awe. Their majesty and beauty take my breath away. It’s as close to heaven as you’re gonna get on earth. The beach is beautiful yet it’s not my first choice of where to go to relax. Too many people…. I live on the water now and I’m content. Let the bums have the beach.
