World-renowned detective

What’s your dream job?

I have already reflected about my wishes of becoming a mystery author. That is in fact a rationalization of my real dream job, though. If I had the power to be anything, I would love to be a world-renowned detective! Yes, I am talking about Sherlock Holmes, Hercule Poirot, or even Cormoran Strike level.

Good news and bad news

Would that become a reality, I know there is good news and bad news about it. The bad news is that, willing or not, it’s a dangerous profession. Of course, this is part of the excitement, you want to catch the bad guys. But you are dealing with criminals, and those people are not to be underestimated. Maybe that is why I really never pursued this career. The good news is that you don’t really need to be a professional detective to do some detective work. You can be anything, and use your knowledge to investigate and fight crime. Like Robert Langdon using his symbology and religion expertise to dismantle shady secret societies. Another possibility is to become an armchair detective, like Nero Wolfe. You don’t need to be on the streets fighting gangs. I mean, there’s still a chance for me.

The appeal of the profession

The appeal of this line of job is significant. You are somehow contributing to end evil in the world. That is why kids want to be police officers, or soldiers, or spies. Each in their own way are going after villains. While some use the force of law, or war strategy, or deception, a classic detective relies mostly in his intellect. It is like a ratiocination game. You need to beat the wrongdoer before they have a chance to escape. You need to collect evidences, build a case and prove your theory to send the criminal to prison.

So, that’s an idea. I still can develop that persona of the world-renowned detective. Who knows? You may have a chance of crossing with it in a mystery novel or in the newspapers. Stay tuned!
