Do you need a break? From what?
Everybody needs a break from time to time. It’s not healthy to be immersed in only one situation all the time.
From work
In a single day, we need to work and be productive. We should also escape reality a bit, watch some movie, read a book, and then rest. This helps us be ready for another day. We then project that to our week, working for about five days and resting two. And we also do that to our year, working for most of the months but taking a vacation in between. If we don’t do it, we will suffer a burnout. That isn’t good for companies nor to individuals. So, we better take care of ourselves.
From politics
Bad news have inundated our timelines in the last few months in the political arena. This trend has intensified in the last few weeks. Did you notice it? Well, that has been happening by design. We have seen some actors trying to disrupt the economy, the international relations, and quite frankly, democracy itself. Their intention is to overwhelm us to the point that they break us. They aim to convince us that there is no way to fight against them.
Many times I thought I should take a break from watching the news because it is too depressing. But then I remember that we must stand up. We need to make our voices heard. If we don’t, we will be swallowed whole. So, I do take a break everyday to keep my sanity. I do that when I realize that I am seeing the same news all over again. But the next day, I go back to getting informed in what is happening around the world.
Finding balance
I believe that balance is one of the most important things in life. But also one of the most difficult to master. It is an art getting to achieve it. It’s like a pendulum. You are going in one direction, and realize that you went too far. You go then in the opposite direction. Instead of stopping in the middle, you pass through it at full speed. Then you realize you go too far again. But that is all part of the balance process. It would be wonderful if we could stop the world and stand still in the middle enjoying everlasting peace. That is not reality though. So, part of our balance is doing something, taking a break, then doing something else. Those are the two opposite sides of the pendulum. This happens because we are in constant movement. It’s important to get up, work, and fight. Equally important is to take a break, rest, and escape this dystopian reality we are living in.
