Describe a random encounter with a stranger that stuck out positively to you.
Oh, I just remembered a random encounter with a lovely couple! This happened during our literary road trip last year. We were in Providence and decided to check a highly recommended seafood place, the Dune Brothers Providence Shack. The food was truly delicious! We had the OG fish sandwich and the lobster roll. You can check gorgeous pictures of both on their Instagram post below.
Popular picnic tables
Their famous and original fish shack has a small but graceful and casual patio with picnic tables. When we got there, the place was packed, there wasn’t any available seat. We put our order, and were prepared to go eat elsewhere when we saw that a table became vacant. A couple that was also waiting asked if it would be fine to share the table. We gladly agreed.
A lovely couple
We became instant friends. They were from Maryland and the lady was participating in a congress in Providence. Her boyfriend took this opportunity to join her and have a nice weekend exploring Rhode Island. I thought this was a terrific idea! We were also enjoying our vacation, were very relaxed, the day was beautiful. The conversation was delightful. We talked about Big Bang Theory, our lives in Brazil, in Canada, and their lives in the US. They recommended their regional cuisine, based on seafood as well, which I love, by the way.
The Old Bay Seasoning

The culture exchange is undoubtedly fruitful in situations like these. As it was expected, we talked a lot about food. We told them what we ate back in Brazil, like feijoada, moqueca, pão de queijo and brigadeiro. They recommended the Old Bay Seasoning, which I forgot after the trip, but remembered just now writing the post. It seems it’s local and very characteristic of Baltimore, Maryland. It goes well mainly with seafood: crabs, shrimp, lobster, but also chicken. I have just ordered it now, so that I don’t forget it again. Looking forward to try it in our culinary experiments.
I’m afraid that I don’t have so frequent random encounters with strangers. Not many in the last few years. What I had more often were planned meetings with people with the same interests which until then were strangers. For example, in many technology summits and business fairs that I have attended throughout the years. I wish I would be more open, talk more with strangers, have more chance encounters. Maybe it’s some area to improve on. Like the experience we had with this lovely couple.
