What’s the oldest things you’re wearing today?
This was a gift for my birthday, a Rose Apothecary T-shirt. I really don’t remember the year, maybe 2020, but I want to say 2021? If indeed it was, that was the year of my COVID birthday celebration… we did it at home, just Thiago, Kati, Thomas and myself… Oh, what a sad and happy time that was! We were not allowed to meet, let alone invite anyone. Thiago got balloons, a gorgeous cake and party blowers and we did a beautiful and intimate celebration. We were happy to still be there, with everything that was happening at the world.
Canadian culture
We were watching a lot of TV shows at the time, well, because we couldn’t go out much. And we wanted to watch Canadian sitcoms because we wanted to immerse ourselves in our new culture. We watched Kim’s Convenience, but we also watched Schitt’s Creek.
It’s a classic story of riches to rags. A ultra wealthy family looses everything and need to start over in the small city of Schitt’s Creek (pun intended). Although they literally own the city, they need to learn how to live with limited resources. But they make new friends, find love and a renewed sense of life during this process. It was awfully similar to what we were experiencing ourselves.
The Rose Apothecary
The Rose Apothecary was a retail shop owned and operated by the character David Rose (Dan Levy). It specialized in re-branded and locally sourced goods, including items like lotions, shampoos, body milks, and more. He’s also helped by his romantic partner Patrick Brewer (Noah Reid). Their relationship starts with David and Patrick becoming business partners when David opens Rose Apothecary. They eventually fall in love, get engaged, and plan to move to New York City together. Their love story is a significant part of the show’s narrative.
It’s bittersweet to think back at that time of my existence. I particularly love this T-Shirt, it reminds me of all these moments and phases of my life. Also when I meet other fans of this show they compliment my outfit. It gives me a sense of belonging. It also makes me feel good.
